Sometime during my second year of ministry, I had lunch with Leanna Coyle-Carr, obviously at Pastries A Go Go. I left lunch thinking to myself “I wanna be like her when I grow up.”
Leanna has invited me to be a part of a network of bloggers who are committing to share seven gratitudes every Friday morning in 2017. What a gift to be invited into such a rich exercise in giving thanks.
Today, on Friday, January 27, I am thankful for:
1. The companionship of furry friends.
OliverElizabeth, my Guinea pig and I have a very special relationship. He’s my buddy and I love him so much. I tell him abut my days, and I read him the Bible and excerpts from my favorite theologians. It’s fine. I annoint him with a special anointing balm I made, every year on the Feast of St. Francis. I also have a friendship with my nephew/niece pups, and my friend Sarah’s puppies.
2. The vast generosity of others
I’ve experienced gifts of provision, hospitality and being listened to, in abundance this month. You know who you are. ThankYou ThankYou ThankYou.
3. Bare branches
The juxtaposition of bare tree branches outstretched toward heaven, against a beautiful, cloudless and crisp blue sky is unbeatably cozy, wonderfully lovely and a warm reminder of life still with us amidst wintry deaths.
Need I say more? Doubt it.
5. Paper and ink
Stationery, pretentious roller balls, fountain pens, beautiful journals. These are the little luxuries that delight me the most.
6. My family
Mom, dad, sister, sister, brother, niece. Aunts and uncles. Grandparents and their legacy. And friends who have become family. I’m extra thankful for all of them this week.
He gives me the last chicken nugget from Chick-Fil-A, the last hush puppy from Cookout, and tells me that dinner was delicious, whenever he comes to eat with me, even if it’s chicken for the millionth time; and that I look beautiful without makeup on. What a sweet guy!
Those are my Seven Gratitudes for today. Check out Leanna’s on her blog.
What are you thankful for today?
