Unfortunately, not all the experiences were the light and jovial ones that come with typical childhoods.
Sitting with families before, during and after the loss of their children will always be something I hold very protectively with solemnity and grace.
One of the new residents was asking if I had an example of a baptism to show. I printed out 2 that I did during my residency- one for a child who was being discharged home and one for a child who wouldn’t be leaving the hospital.
I’ve spent a year in paradox- walking the line between sorrow and joy and helping families hold the emotions n each spectrum.
My hands and heart are full- not heavy so much anymore- but full and very thankful.
