Trauma in Haiku

Please come, we need you

Blood and tears are everywhere

Sadness all around

Ice water and hugs

Prayer and solidarity

Comforting presence

Go in there with them

Watch them say tearful goodbyes

Watch them leave, grieving

Breathe in and breathe out

Clinical staff and chaplain

Process together

What do these hours mean?

Sacred childhood stripped away

Life goes on and on

We somehow survived

A room blessing is given

We’re looking for rest

Home again safely

To shower and to re-live

Re-purpose horror

Keep finding meaning

Traumas turn into sacred

Stories that live on
