Souls collide

Hello, and welcome!  Thanks for stopping by.

This blog is my way of documenting my project for the year: adding my voice to the fight against extreme poverty

This has been weighing heavily on my heart for quite some time. Since I live in a priviledged country, in a nice house whose refrigerator is always full, I’m hardly ever mindful of those in this world who live on less than 1 dollar a day. For the next year, I will be abstaining from eating out, and purchasing only simple food staples that will give me the nutrition I need.

I will be using the money I save to put toward the Lord’s work in the ways revealed to me throughout the course of the year.  I also believe that this will be a powerful and tangible way to be mindful in prayer of the marginalized, with whom Jesus himself spent much of his time.

It is my hope and prayer that in my new-found simplicity, my soul will collide with another far away soul and that compassion in action will be the end result.

I would love for  you to join me in this, whether it be through prayer, reading my weekly updates, comments, or even embarking on a compassion experiment of your own.

This month, I will be sending my eating out money (which we will from now on refer to as compassion funds) to World Vision’s clean water for Africa project. You can check them out at www.worldvision.org

“The spirit of the sovereign Lord is on me because the Lord has appointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners.” Isaiah 61:1-3

  1. Proud of you Sara. I will be praying for you during this journey and I will pray that in joining God in this way, his kingdom grows inside of you in a powerful way, in your relationships, and among the people you will meet in this journey who face extreme poverty. We love you and are thankful to know someone like you whose faith is put into action.
